Organising 2014! (check our Seasonal Tips to help you plan ahead)

The Juggling Act…In today's fast moving society, you are constantly pressured to play the juggling act. It's important to allocate time for yourself, family, health, business, education, and so on. But your health, happiness and well-being depends on some sort of balance. How do you keep track of your many roles and responsibilities? How do you ensure that you remember to do everything to achieve and maintain that necessary balance?

  • Write it down... you don't have to keep everything in your head. With everything going on in your life, it's difficult to remember everything, even if you have a superb memory so write it down! When your planned activities and responsibilities are on paper, they don't have to be stored in your memory with a million other things.

  • Goals and Priorities…In order to create proper balance, you must have goals. Choose those activities that will help you live the kind of life you desire. Make a list of what you're trying to achieve, those tasks that you're responsible for, and the things you don't want to miss out on.
Once you do this, go back to your list and assign a priority code to each one using the following key:

A Priority = This is vital to the achievement of my goals. I must do it immediately.

B Priority = This is important to the achievement of my goals. I must do it soon.

C Priority = This is not very important to the achievement of my goals, but would be nice to do if I have the time.

  •  Use the proper tools...to help you map out your activities and accomplish your priorities. Eliminate the Little Notes Everywhere Syndrome, which causes nothing more than chaos, stress and frustration. One organised system will help you to get organised and achieve that balance. Some people prefer a "paper system" to keep it all together. Others prefer a computer software system that uses virtual space, and no paper at all. The system you choose to use depends entirely on your needs and personality style.

  • Count your Blessings... each day, think of at least 10 things that make you feel really happy to be alive - your spouse or partner, your children, your pet, your health, your home, the moon, the ocean, flowers, trees, puffy clouds or even the changing seasons - whatever you can think of that makes you smile.

  • List these ten things... each morning before you start off your day. Carry this list with you, and refer to it throughout the day, especially at those times when you may be feeling a bit stressed. Your list can be a constant provider of encouragement.

If you're still having trouble getting things done, each night choose a total of 3 tasks you plan to work on the very next day - and get started on those 3 tasks as early as possible tomorrow. Don't do anything else until those 3 tasks are completed. By the end of each week, you will have completed a minimum of 21 tasks. At the end of each month, you will have completed a minimum of 90 tasks!
